Nose Reshaping / Rhinoplasty

Nose reshaping, also known as rhinoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that improves the proportion of your nose. In some cases, it may be performed to resolve or improve problems with breathing.

If your nose appears large or disproportional, rhinoplasty may be the right solution for you. A wide range of changes can be made to the nose during rhinoplasty: including alteration of the following:

  • Large, wide or long nose
  • Short or small nose
  • Bumpy, crooked or droopy nose

Good candidates for rhinoplasty are dissatisfied with the appearance of their nose and capable of understanding the risks and benefits involved with surgery. The procedure requires 1 to 3 hours of operating time, typically under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation.

Nose Reshaping Techniques

Plastic surgeons utilize two basic methods in rhinoplasty: the closed method and open method. The closed method will involve incisions within the nose, while the open method requires lifting of the skin to obtain a clear view of the nasal structures. During your consultation, Dr. Leff can explain the reasons for using each method.

Recovering After Rhinoplasty Surgery

The recovery period is usually 1-2 weeks. You will be sent home with a special splint on the nose and some gauze packing within the nose. It takes some time for swelling to subside and you will need to avoid any activities that could strike the nose.

Recovering from rhinoplasty takes patience. You have to wait for the swelling to subside and gradually adjust to the changes in your facial appearance. After a few months, you will be able to appreciate the changes brought by rhinoplasty. For many patients, this is a life-changing experience.
