Gynecomastia / Male breast reduction

The condition known as Gynecomastia is identified by the presence of excess breast tissue on a man’s chest. This condition is relatively common, but the specific cause is not known. Doctors have linked gynecomastia to hormone imbalances and lifestyle related factors.

If you have gynecomastia that cannot be resolved through lifestyle changes, male breast reduction surgery is an option that we provide here in Bellevue. Patients should be non-smokers at a stable and healthy body weight.

Breast Reduction for Men: The Procedure

Before the procedure, Dr. Leff will evaluate your condition to determine the composition of your breast tissue. Male breast tissue is a combination of glandular tissue and fat. To remove the tissue, liposuction or surgical excision may be performed on the chest. The incisions are typically hidden in the pigmented skin surrounding your nipples.

After male breast reduction, you will be wrapped in gauze and a bandage. Recovery time will be about 1 week, during which you will need to limit physical activity. Medications can control discomfort. After 1-2 weeks, the stitches will be removed, but it may take longer for the final result to be evaluated. The results of male breast reduction should be permanent.
