Facelift and Neck Lift

Signs of aging that appear in the neck, middle-face and lower face can be addressed with a facelift or necklift. One of these procedures may be right for you if your face is showing:

  • Lax skin
  • Deep wrinkles and folds
  • Loss of definition in the jaw area

Facelift

Most patients who undergo facelift surgery are in the range of 40 to 60 years old. They are bothered by deep folds of skin in the lower face or sagging tissue. Good candidates are healthy non-smokers who are capable of understanding the risks involved.

The surgery requires about 2 to 3 hours under local, or sometimes general, anesthesia. Incisions are made near the temple, in front of the ear and behind the earlobe. Tissue is separated, trimmed and lifted while underlying tissues are tightened. Stitches are placed to fixate layers of tissue and close the incisions.

Necklift

Necklift surgery addresses excess neck skin and sagging neck muscles. The procedure may be combined with liposuction of the neck area to remove fatty tissue that has accumulated beneath the chin. Incisions may be placed near the earlobe, behind the ear, near the hairline and underneath the chin. Dr. Leff removes or tightens fat, muscle and skin to improve the contour of the neck area.

After Surgery: Recovering from a Facelift or Necklift

Recovery time varies, but patients should expect about 1-2 weeks of downtime after one of these procedures. After surgery, your face or neck will be loosely wrapped in a bandage. Expect some numbness, bruising and puffiness during this time. Keeping your head elevated and limiting your activities will be necessary. Ask Dr. Leff when you can apply cosmetics after your procedure.
