Dysport is the latest wrinkle treatment to receive FDA approval in the United States. While it has been used in Europe and New Zealand for years, it has just recently been introduced to the U.S. Market.
Like other wrinkle treatments containing the botulinum toxin, Dysport works by a process called neuromuscular blocking, which relaxes those small muscles in the face and forehead that cause wrinkles to form.
Your facial muscles contract and your skin folds when you laugh, frown, smile, squint, and so on. In an aging person, whose collagen and skin elasticity has broken down, those folds become static wrinkles, which remain visible at all times. Treatment with Dysport will not only reduce and ‘smooth out’ wrinkles, but also prevent them from getting worse.
When to Consider Dysport
Some of the popular indications for Dysport treatment include the following:
- Frown lines between the eyebrows, also known as ‘11s’
- Crow’s feet/eye wrinkles
- Glabellar lines/forehead wrinkles
In a brief outpatient procedure, Dysport is injected (in very small amounts) into targeted facial muscles. The injections are relatively painless, but a numbing agent can be applied if necessary. Results take effect over the next few days as the muscles begin to relax.
Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?
Although the results are visible, Dysport treatment does not radically change your facial appearance. You are able to show full expression without wrinkles and creases.
How does Dysport work?
Moderate to severe lines and furrows form over time as the result of muscle activity. Dysport is injected directly into the muscle to temporarily block the transmission of nerve impulses and relax the muscle.
