Chin Augmentation / Genioplasty

Chin surgery, also known as genioplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that alters the shape or size of one’s chin. Chin augmentation can be accomplished with the placement of a special implant or through alteration of the underlying bone structure.

Candidates for Chin Augmentation

Good candidates for chin augmentation have a chin that is weak, a condition that may be described as microgenia. When the underlying bone structure in the chin is inadequate, it can disrupt the balance of your facial features. For example, the nose may appear more prominent than normal. If you are bothered by this condition, chin augmentation is a good solution.

Chin Implant

Facial implants are typically made of silicone rubber. They come in many shapes and sizes to meet the needs of each patient. A chin implant is placed through a small incision in the mouth or underneath the chin, resting on top of the jawbone. When performed as a single procedure, chin augmentation requires one hour or less.

After surgery, your chin is wrapped in gauze and tape and you may need to modify your activities (eating, drinking, and dental hygiene) for several days. Minor bruising and swelling can occur during recovery. Dr. Leff will provide specific post-operative information to guide you through the recovery period.
