Cheek Augmentation
A youthful face will often exhibit strong cheekbones and full, voluminous cheeks. Unfortunately, many people are born with weak bone structure or they see the tissue in the cheeks flatten out over time. With cheek augmentation, we can create fullness in the middle of the face and balance the cheekbones with your existing facial features.
Candidates for cheek augmentation will show conditions such as the following:
- Inadequate cheek structure
- Hollow mid-face
- Flat or sunken cheeks
- Wrinkles
Cheek augmentation involves injection of a dermal filler or surgical placement of a silicone rubber facial implant. The procedure may be done in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid surgery.
Cheek Augmentation Procedure
Placement of a facial implant requires less than one hour of operating time. General anesthesia is typically used, but local anesthesia is an option in some cases. Dr. Leff makes an incision inside the upper lip or in the lower eyelid. A pocket is made for the implant before it is inserted and fastened.
Wrinkle fillers that we carry in Bellevue such as Restylane, Juvederm, Artefill or Prevelle Silk may be recommended for cheek augmentation. Dr. Leff uses a fine needle to inject the filler into the facial tissue, increasing tissue volume and cheek projection. Discomfort is managed with topical numbing cream in combination with lidocaine contained in the wrinkle filler.
Some swelling will occur for several days, but the results of cheek augmentation can be appreciated immediately.
