Women who undergo breast reduction surgery are looking for relief from the many physical problems caused by excessively large breasts. How is breast augmentation performed?
Breast reduction is an outpatient procedure and is often done with the patient under a local anesthetic with sedation, though sometimes a general anesthetic is used. To perform your breast reduction surgery, Dr. Leff will make one of a few incisions on your breasts. Most commonly, he will make an incision around the nipple areola extending down to the breast crease, and another along the breast crease.
When he makes the incisions, Dr. Leff will remove excess tissue as well as skin from the area. He may also use liposuction to further slenderize the breasts and shape them. Dr. Leff will also place the nipple areola in a more youthful position. Once he is satisfied with the shape, size and appearance of the breasts, Dr. Leff will close the incisions with sutures and apply a surgical dressing. Your breasts will also be covered with a compression garment to maintain the new shape.
What will my breasts be like after surgery?
When you have completed surgery, you will need someone to help you home and to stay with you for at least a day. Dr. Leff will want you to return regularly for check-ups so he can track your healing.
As you heal from your breast reduction, not only will your breasts appear a more normal size, but you will experience increased comfort and health. You self-confidence should be improved and you may be able to wear clothing you would have previously struggled with.
